Willie Cole: Sole Sitter Reproduction

$150.00

Bring the art of Willie Cole into your home or office with this NMOA exclusive reproduction of the Sole Sitter sculpture.

Sculptor and conceptual artist Willie Cole is best known for assembling and transforming ordinary domestic and everyday objects into imaginative and powerful works of art and installations.

Just as African tribes of the Côte d’Ivoire employed humble, everyday materials to create fierce masks in the 19th and 20th centuries, Willie Cole assembled women’s shoes to create this icon of his own.

The Sole Sitter is based on principles of the religion of the Yoruba people in West Africa, in which specific deities are believed to lead worshippers to the gods. The sitter is waiting and hoping for a deity to come. The work reflects Cole's longtime interest in African art and culture, which he was first introduced to as a child growing up in Newark and visiting The Newark Museum of Art.

  • Each sculpture features Willie Cole's signature engraved under the base.
  • Constructed from high-quality resin, this replica offers a durable and visually striking representation of the original artwork.
  •  5 x 8.25 inches,  ideal for display on desks, bookshelves, or coffee tables.
  • Packaged in a lovely gift box, this reproduction makes a meaningful gift for art lovers, cultural aficionados, and advocates of sustainability, offering a piece of iconic art that aligns with eco-conscious values.
